Christmas Project 2022
This year our Christmas project
for the children was different
format. At this point in time, it will not
be possible for the charity to visit the families in
Ukraine to deliver the programme but there is no way the charity wants to let the
children down.
Not only do they deserve to receive Christmas presents but they
desperately need a break from the mental stress of what has surrounded them since February 2022.
The charity came up with a plan that will enable to keep to our commitment for the children.
The charity brought approx. 100 children from Ukraine by coach to Poland close to the border with Ukraine. The charity accommodated the children for approx. 4 days to allow the charity to give them a variety of activities to include Christmas Parties together with a visit from Santa, BBQ’s in the forest, Cinema, Pizza Making experience and craft workshops.
The children were accompanied by escorting adults/leaders and the charity has negotiated the hire of a facility which is normally used for weddings and other celebrations. Whilst more expensive, it was the only facility found that could accommodate the numbers. All other possible venues are occupied by refugee families.
In addition, the charity brought a further group of children who are
currently refugees within Poland. Their parents will
accompany them on “day visits” to organised activities.
The charity visited refugee families in residential centres to deliver presents for children and household essentials for the family.
The charity is also going to be using this Christmas Project to evaluate further possibilities for people to be able
to engage “on the ground” in our work.
The charity hopes it may be
possible to arrange group visits to possibly help with other projects.
This will also add to our portfolio of being able to demonstrate to the UK Government that
even in the current drastic situation, the charity is able to bring children out of Ukraine in a safe
and secure manner and the difference this can make to their mental and physical well being.
The charity will still
actively pursue the case to bring children to the UK but while this is not possible as yet, could
there be a case for the charity to go to them in Poland and organise camps or similar where volunteers can
take an active part.
All of this is under discussion and nothing will happen overnight but it does give hope for the future and a positive outlook for being able to still engage with
the children as the charity has always done.
